SIMET: An ambitious project named the State Institute of Medical Education and Technology (SI-MET) under the Health department, Government of Kerala is one of the prestigious project with an objective to improve the Medical and Paramedical Education in different systems of Medicines like Allopathy, Ayurveda, Homeo and Sidha .It also intends to strengthen the research approach in these fields.
This self financing Institution was registered as a society under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act, 1955(Act XII of 1955) as Reg.No. T 899/08 with Thiruvananathapuram as its head quarter.
Minister for Health&Family Welfare Department , Government of Kerala will be the Chairperson and the Secretary to Government, Health and Social welfare Department will be the Vice –Chairperson .The Ex-officio members are Secretary to Government, Department of Finance, Secretary to Government, Department of Planning, State Mission Director, NRHM, Kerala, Vice- Chancellor, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, Director of Medical Education, Director of Health services, Director, State Institute of Medical Education and Technology, Director of Ayurveda Medical Education. Principal and Controlling Officer, Government Homeopathic Medical College and Deputy Director of Nursing Education.
Three Nursing Colleges for BSc(Nursing) course, one each at Palluruthy, Malampuzha and Uduma has started as its first phase. Two more colleges are started at Thripunithura, Ernakulam District and Mundoor, Palakkad District for conducting Post Basic BSc Nursing Course. Also started a Nursing College at Parassinikadavu, Mangattuparamba,Kannur District for conducting Post Basic BSc Nursing Course in 2011-12. Two Institutes for Paramedical Sciences one each at Pilathara, Kannur for DMLT course and Pazhampalakode for DHI course has been handed over to Director of Health Services. A BSc Nursing College at Muttathara, Thiruvananthapuram District (now functioning at Pattur, Vanchiyoor P.O (Between Govenment Opthalmic Hospital and Pattor Junction) with an annual intake of 60 students started during the academic year 2015-16. Foundation laying function and land records handing over of SI-MET College of Nursing Muttathara at Muttathara (near Beemapally) on 17/2/2016. During the year 2023, seven B.Sc Nursing Colleges were established under SIMET - Neyyattinkara, Varkala (Thiruvananthapuram Dist), Konni (Pathanamthitta Dist), Nooranad (Alappuzha Dist), Tanur (Malappuram Dist), Dharmadam, Thalipparamba (Kannur Dist) with an intake of 60 students each.
The institute is planning to host a variety of academic and research programmes in the field of Health and allied sciences under its management.
